EAST LANSING, Mich. --- The MSU Department of Police and Public Safety (DPPS) is providing an update to a sexual assault investigation that has resulted in criminal charges and the arrest of the suspect.

On April 3, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., DPPS responded to a MSU Health Care facility in the 4600 block of S. Hagadorn Rd for a sexual assault complaint. MSU police officers and a Police Social Worker met with an adult female patient who had just left her medical appointment from inside the facility and reported that she had been sexually assaulted by the resident physician who had examined her.

As part of our protocol this case was forwarded to the DPPS Special Victims Unit (SVU) for review and further investigation. MSU police is committed to utilizing trauma-informed and victim-centered practices during our investigations.

Following the complaint, the resident physician was promptly removed from his role of seeing patients on April 7, 2025, and eventually dismissed from his position. During the course of the DPPS investigation, a second adult female victim was identified who also reported being sexually assaulted by the same resident physician.

DPPS completed a thorough and comprehensive criminal investigation that was submitted to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office on August 28, 2025. On September 3, 2026, the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a felony warrant charging the suspect with three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct third degree and one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct fourth degree.

Following the issuance of the criminal charges, DPPS investigators with the assistance of other law enforcement resources successfully located the suspect in Atlanta, Georgia and he was arrested. The suspect is currently in custody and being held at the Clayton County Jail in Jonesboro, Georgia pending an extradition hearing.

The suspect is identified as Arpit Saxena, a 39-year-old male.

Throughout the investigation, the DPPS Special Victims Unit (SVU) has been leading the preparation of this case for prosecution. The SVU includes MSU police investigators with advanced education in trauma-informed and victim-centered practices. We recognize there may be further incidents that currently remain unreported.

If you were a patient of resident physician Saxena between July 1, 2024, and April 7, 2025, and if you experienced conduct during your care that made you feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or otherwise concerned, we kindly ask you to contact DPPS and allow us an opportunity to listen to your experience. A phone hotline and email tipline has been established for anyone who would like to come forward and file a police report, ask questions about available resources, or simply discuss options for support.

Phone: 844-99-MSUPD (844-996-7873)

Email:  tips@police.msu.edu.

DPPS remains committed to protecting the safety and well-being of the MSU community, thoroughly investigating all reports of criminal activity, and ensuring individuals who come forward are treated with dignity, respect, compassion and pursuing every available avenue to ensure community safety and accountability.
