MSU DPPS to Conduct Full-Scale Emergency Exercise on July 8, 2025

EAST LANSING, Mich. --- As part of its ongoing commitment to campus safety and professional standards, the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety (MSU DPPS) will conduct a full-scale emergency exercise on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the campus of Michigan State University.
The exercise is a critical component of MSU DPPS’s dedication to maintaining the highest levels of preparedness and compliance with the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) standards.
"Regular training exercises like this are essential for testing and improving our emergency response capabilities," said Mike Yankowski, Police Chief, MSU DPPS. "Our goal is to ensure that we are always ready to respond effectively to any situation, maintaining the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors."
The exercise will simulate a campus emergency and involve coordinated efforts from MSU DPPS, campus units, and local community partners. This collaborative approach ensures comprehensive planning and preparation, reinforcing the department’s commitment to the safety and security of the MSU community.
Community partners participating in the exercise include the East Lansing Police Department, East Lansing Fire Department, Ingham County 911 and local emergency medical services. The exercise will take place on the east side of the MSU campus, and the community may notice an increased presence of emergency personnel and vehicles on the morning of July 8.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the MSU community as we conduct this important training exercise,” said Yankowski “Raising awareness about the planned exercise is essential to making sure our campus community and neighbors are informed regarding this event and is not alarmed by an increased law enforcement and emergency response personnel presence on the day.”
