MSU DPPS identifies suspects in assault investigation

April 16, 2024

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Due to the quick and thorough work by many members of our department, MSU Police and Public Safety has identified all suspects in connection to the aggravated assault that took place on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the MSU Main Library. A total of seven suspects were identified.

The suspects assaulted two victims, potentially selecting the victims because of the suspects’ sexual orientation bias. A Timely Warning was issued to all MSU students, faculty and staff on Monday, and the suspects were identified on Tuesday. None of the suspects are affiliated with MSU. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Once the investigation is completed, it will be submitted to the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office with a request for charges against the suspects.

It is important to recognize that crimes are never the fault of a victim. Anyone who believes they have been discriminated against or harassed is encouraged to report the incident(s) to the MSU Office of Institutional Equity. Safety information related to various types of situations can be found on our Safety Tips page.

Ensuring the overall safety of the Spartan community is our top priority. If anyone receives a targeted or personal threat or has information relevant to the investigation, they should immediately contact our department at 517-355-2221. In case of an emergency, contact 911 – call if you can, text if you can’t.
